Route description:

Riders will leave Dedham early as they make their way through the south shore to Plymouth, MA.  Here the riders will find a number of services for breakfast and visit the famous Plymouth Rock! Afterwards, riders will head south out of Plymouth on Long Pond Rd, skirting Myles Standish State Park (a favorite of Newport 300k and Between the Lakes 200k riders).  At mile 56 riders will approach the Sagamore Bridge.  For those new to the area, the entrance to the bridge is in the McDonalds/Shell parking lot (Look on the road for markings!!)  Please cross the bridge on the sidewalk and be careful on the bridge, the curb is a solid 8 inches above the road.  Legally you are required to walk, and we recommend it.  After crossing the bridge, riders will officially be on the Cape!  The route turns east toward Sandwich, MA and a Stop and Shop for resupply.  Afterwards, the route joins a service road parallel to route 6 and heads towards Barnstable, eventually joining the Cape Cod Rail trail.

Riders should be courteous as many users are on the trail and exercise caution if traveling on the trail at night during the 400k.  Riders will pass through the towns of South Dennis, Brewster, and Orleans before reaching its terminus in South Wellfleet. Riders will join route 6 here for 10 miles before exiting just north of Truro.  From here, it’s a short ride to Provincetown where services are abundant and 200k riders can take a ferry back to Boston.

For 200k riders, the ferries leave at 3pm and 7pm from Provincetown and arrive in Boston at 4:35pm and 9:05pm respectively. Please book your tickets here in advance as they sell out quickly:  https://baystatecruisecompany.com/schedule-fares/

200k riders should make arrangements for their own transportation from the ferry dock to their home or back to the start.

400k riders will resupply in Provincetown and head back the way they came.  Riders should be cautious on the Cape Cod Rail Trail especially if navigating it at dusk or after dark.  Services may be limited after 11pm.  The controls in South Dennis, Sagamore, and Plymouth should be open 24 hrs (The Shell in Sagamore may be closed from 2am-2:30 am).
